Advancing from the TNP Reptiles and Amphibian Course, this all-day workshop, led by expert herper Eric Fann, will focus on the types of reptiles found in Middle Tennessee. The class portion will cover their evolutionary history, habitat, physiology, natural history, and present dangers they face. We will look at the historical diversity on a global level and talk briefly about the sub-groups. The course will focus on indigenous species and specifically those found in and around the Duck River. Meet at the Wilderness Station for 1.5-hour lecture. We will then leave for the Duck River for a modest 3-4-hour float looking for reptiles that call the river home. Drive time will be approx. 1.5 hours one way from the wilderness station. 6 hours of TNP Continuing Ed (drive time not included).
What to expect/bring - Masks are required for indoor portion. Outdoor Murfreesboro will provide one-man kayaks and personal flotation devices. Transportation to the Duck River cannot be provided due to Covid restrictions; each student is responsible for their own transportation. Bring a picnic lunch and water, sunscreen, appropriate footwear and clothing for river exploration, waterproof bag for personal belongings, hats recommended. Experience with paddling recommended.
Put in is at Sowell Mill Pk boat ramp. Take out will be at Howard Bridge take out. We will work out shuttling logistics on the day of.
